BOWs is launching a Joint Literacy Project. We have contacted Title I Schools in the area and are offering practice reading sessions for children in the neighborhood. The project will run November 6, 2017, until April 30, 2018. Volunteers will conduct forty-five (45) minute practice sessions at scheduled times weekly.
We are especially concerned about the children who will be impacted by the implementation of the law, "Read to Succeed" this school year. According to a recent Post & Courier - Read to Succeed article, one of every twenty (20) third graders is at risk of not moving to the fourth grade. Families served by Title I Schools are most impacted by new policies making changes in the delivery of quality education.
