A project to work on improving basic reading skills for the children of BOWs.

Our Joint Literacy Project is moving forward in offering guided reading sessions for children who are reading below their grade level in the neighborhood. We are launching the project with activities featuring basic words for reading. Our first task is to review the leveled word list with each child in the program. We have a volunteer opportunity for adults and teens to participate in 45-minute sessions Monday through Thursday. We have a Fun Friday each week to celebrate the reading accomplishments.

Join Our Team! We need volunteers to read and participate in our planned activities. Exciting things happen when there is a joint effort supported by people who have a passion for helping children reach and exceed their academic potential.

This project is Beyond Our Walls (BOWs) commitment to support families who will be directly impacted by the Read to Succeed Law that mandates retaining third-grade students not passing the SC READY assessment test. We believe a guided reading program and scheduled practice sessions in the neighborhood offers parents and neighbors resources to help their children.
